Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q. Does FFG use Organic gardening methods?
A. The short answer is Yes. But the term organic gets tossed around too often when we talk about gardening so a better way to describe our approach is guarantee to not use any Synthetic Chemical Fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides in our gardens. Focusing on maintaining healthy, diverse soil biology with lots of organic matter will ensure you have a productive garden for years to come.
Q. What are your prices?
A. Prices for all installation and maintenance services that FFG provide are estimated after completing a individualized garden consultation and collaboratively incorporating our client goals and expectations. At the end of the day, each garden will have different needs and we want to give each project and garden special attention. Additionally, we aim to always offer fair and transparent pricing for all of our work.
Q. Do you start crops from seed or transplants?
A. We love answering this question, because it gets us talking about garden planning! Our goal is always to maximize the use all garden space in every garden that we maintain. In order to do this, we use a combination of both seeds and seedlings in our plans. Focused on succession plantings and crop interplanting techniques means we tend to use seeds more frequently, but some vegetable that need longer periods of warm daylight have to be transplanted into the garden as seedlings to survive. These include tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and other summer favorites. Crops like salad greens, carrots, beans, peas and corn can be direct seeded into the garden following seed package instructions for your growing zone.
Q. How often do you visit client gardens?
A. Depending on the size of a garden and the time of the season we tend to visit most gardens every 1-2 weeks. We also visit gardens for any unexpected needs such as pest and disease control, irrigation system adjustments and other potential client concerns.
Q. What is your coverage area?
A. Please always call us first to ask about your specific project. We can be flexible with our coverage area, but you can find our common coverage map in our Contact Us page or follow this direct Link.
Q. Do your clients get to select what vegetables are grown in their gardens?
A. YES! We start almost all garden consultations by asking you to fill out this simple Vegetable Selection Form in order to create your individualized garden plan. Feel free to use the form and click on the "Send me a copy of my responses" button at the end of the form to get a list of your selections in your inbox right away.
Q. I can maintain the garden myself; can FFG help with the installation only? Or do I have to sign up for a season maintenance plan?
A. We want to meet client needs at all different levels of experience and their expectations. This means for some folks we will manage every aspect of the garden from planting to harvesting. For others, we might be helping with some Spring and Fall cleanup and prep work. Trying to approach each project uniquely and move our goal to help all people grow their own food!
